Thanks to Grandma got STEM contributor Else Høyrup, who called attention to the fact that today is the 50th anniversary of the first woman in space: Valentina Tereshkova on June 16, 1963. She piloted the Vostock 6 spacecraft on a flight that lasted 70.8 hours and orbited the Earth 48 times.
